Hi Everyone! I'm new on here although I think i have met a few of you at some local shows over the last few years. My current car is a custom '76 Corvette. It's up for sale right now and I'm starting the hunt for a new project. This one is for my 12 year old son, soon to be 13. He really loves the El Camino's so that's what we're going to do.
Our current plans, subject to change are: LSx motor, 6 spd, restomod look, lowered, custom interior.
So knowing that i know nothing about Chevelle's and ElCamino's: Any years I should avoid? What should I look for mechanically on these; like spots prone to hidden rust, or bad seals, etc? Will it be easy to find a solid framed car to work on? Has anyone on here done one or know of a website or two where I could check one out?
More to come...
Chris

Chris there's a few websites to check out. www.chevelles.com LS1tech.com www.elcaminocentral.com just to name a few. I guess personal preference is what is going to determine what year you get for your son. I have a 70 SS396 car and am therefore partial to that year. You will find the most reproduction parts are made for a 68-72 Camino. The other years are not supported as well. Areas of rust well check the frame especially and if you find something local e-mail me and I could help you check it out.
