I think I'll have the block decked and go with the 58cc heads with the 1.94 valves.

Thanks for the help.

Got bad news from the machine shop yesterday....

The back two cylinders in the block wouldn't clean up even at .060 over.

I was hoping to have everything assembled and in the car within the next week... What a bummer..

Got to get another block and have another go at it...

On the positive side, the crank cleaned up at .010 and .020 under for the Mains and Rods respectively.

Sorry to hear that Tod. Shouldn't be too hard to find a block.

Strike 2.....

2nd block I picked up this past weekend was cleaned today and has a 3 inch crack in it..

Arggggg....

And to make the situation more interesting, I had already ordered the pistons/rings at .030 over based on the cylinder measurements.

So I now need to find another 283 block that can be bored to .030 over.

I'm checking craigslist leads now. If anyone has a block or knows where I can get one, please let me know.

That sucks. Where was the crack?

Let me call Jerry Webb from the club and see if he has a 283 laying around that he wants to sell. I sold him the 283 from our wagon project this spring for his 67.

There was a screw in freeze plug on the side of the block. I believe the crack was next to it.

Hi Tod, here's a long block on ebay. Best of all it's in Milford OH. Good luck, Steve

Turns out the cracks were on both sides of the one of the drain plugs near the bottom edge of the block. That's the thicker area. Not repairable.

I located one locally for $150. It's a complete 1960 283. I'm thinking on it.

I'm having a 327 block checked out tomorrow. If it's good, I may put my 283 crank and rods in it along with some 327 pistons to make a 302. That would be kind of cool.
