Over at Jamies yesterday changed waterpump and tweaked the PS hose that was leaking. Left Mike alone with Jamie to finish up. While over there a Yellow Nova drove by, Jamie said that guy drives by but never stops. 15 Minutes later this guy swings in and starts talking to us. Trying to get him in the Nova club and tag along with the Chevelle club. He has a large CACHE of cars and parts as well as an Elcamino that needs parts. Of course Jamie has a Elky roof the guy needs maybe he will join the club.

I cant thank Jamie and Dave enough for all the help they have provided for this car.

After Dave left, Jamie put everything back together again and we fired it up. Does not appear to be leaking anymore and she sounds REALLY good. Jamie used the timing light and made some adjustments. It is burning fuel really bad so if anyone knows how to adjust the jets on the carb let us know.

We are going to have to figure out the electrical issues soon. Does anyone know electrical? I am thinking about buying a harness for under the dash and hopefully that would fix some of the gauges and the tail light issues.

Anyone have any ideas?

I got the bug in me after hearing it fired up. I cant wait to get it out and about!

Mike,

I think Keith supplied a bunch of jets with the carb.

If you or whomever takes the fuel bowls off the holley, the jets should be right there. There are small numbers printed on them for the sizes.

Remember this was run on Keith's engine so the jets may differ from what you need. I would go with a jet size 72s' in the front and 78s' in the rear and adjust from there.

Is it putting out black smoke from the tails. If its burning that much fuel, then its running rich. Jamie did right by setting the timing first, always set timing on an engine first and then set the carb.

Also check the float level. That can be a big cause for running rich like that.

A vacuum gauge would be nice to help for tuning also.

Chris.

Chris, it runs fat at idle and seems lean bove idle. It wants more fuel driving down the road, and need to get temp gauges working before anything else.

I would recommend posting this question to Team Chevelle site as there are alot of people have experience with Holley carbs.

I agree with John, start with 72 jets in the primaries. Check the idle mixture screws with the car off, they should be about one and a half turns out. Get it running again and set your initial timing between 16 and 18 degrees, then start and stop it a few times to make sure it starts easy and doesn't run on.

Use the vacuum gauge Chris referred to. Plug it in at a fitting at the front or base of the carb, you may also tap in to the intake manifold but it needs to be on a constant vacuum source. The way to tune with it is to adjust your timing to get the most vacuum with the rpm's low.

Before you start any of this it is always suggested you have new plugs, wires, cap and rotor.

Hope this helps a little.

Let us know how it goes.

So do I dare ask what's left?

Mike's got room at his place now, why don't you bring it there?

Speedo is off by 10 mph, Julie followed me and thought I was driving to fast on corners. It will read 50mph and is 60mph so good thing it handles good.

Idle makes your eyes water it is so rich, and even warmed blows blue smoke. Driving at 60 it will go into a lean surge and pings being so lean.

Jamie checked the posi unit out on the cement in front of the shop works good, leaves black marks.

Electrical still has many issues to solve
Gauges. lights, turnsignals, brake and running lights.

E brake cable needs to be reconnected.
BIG HOLE IN FLOOR around shifter "Can you say hot air blowing in"

Steering wheel needs to be pulled and recentered the guy who did the alignment made that possible.

2 guys put a new waterpump on and when I got home blew antifreeze all over, so I need to find out where it is leaking. MIKE I'M LOOKING IN YOUR DIRECTION!

Reinstall the underhood Stainless for that show car shine. Can't find the fog lamps, bug deflector trailer hitch.

The PINK FUN FUR that was with the car LAST YEAR is gone. RICK I"M LOOKING IN YOUR DIRECTION!

Clean and shine car up see if the windshield will buff up, it was pure glare driving it back.
Car has another 300lbs of crap in the car that the owner could get out to lighten it up.

Mike stopped over today, and later so did Rick. [Roll Eyes] Went to adjust the floats in the carb and try to tune it better. Never saw a carb shoot that much fuel stright up and out. Took it over to Magnum Superchargers and he went through it. He said as far in as the adjustments were and the other issues with the engine showed a Vacuum leak. He looked over the new distributor and said NOT to use the vacuum advance on it. After getting everything back together and 2 tries to get distributor in correctly it ran sweet. The flat spot is gone and ping as well, tires loose traction more easily now though. Got new wire looms and hood pins for the car. After a quick wash in the AM I will bring it up to Becker for the car show at the school, then burnouts in ROGERS. [Big Grin]

What about the lights? It doesnt have working tail lights does it? You dont want Mike to impound his own car for safety equipment not working right?

Chris.
