Finally made the jump and bought a nice mig welder. A Millermatic 212.

I have a cheap automatic helmet thats still new in the box. But I decided to pony up the cash and buy a top of the line helmet since that was on sale too. One of the Miller Digital Elite helmets (Inferno).

However, I wasnt too happy to find that a bottle of Argon/CO2 costs about 300 dollars filled. Is that typical now days to be paying that much to buy a full tank? That price was for a full tank and ownership of the tank rather then leasing it.

If thats the way prices are for a full tank, I would much rather buy a tank from someone that is not using it anymore then pay to have it inspected then filled.

Chris.

Chris, I just lease the tanks and don't worry the ownership BS. When you lease a tank you just exchange when empty, when you own you drop it off for a refill. Some places take a week to refill and if you want to change gases you need to buy another tank. Just lease it and be done with it IMO.

Dave. I was a Jamies for a little while on Sunday afternoon and he said the same thing. I made several calls to gas supply houses yesterday about the options on what to do and I have to agree with the both of you. It is like 150-175 to lease a tank for 5 years. It may take me 5 years to empty the size tank im looking at anyways. At that price, it just seems foolish to buy a tank and deal with problems, especially if something happens to a tank I own.

Now, to start looking into getting the right 230 volt outlet run into the garage. Only a car guy buys the equipment before being able to really use it.

I thought my leases were $100 for 5 years, it also depends on size as well. I have 4 tanks that I lease, oxy, acet. argon/co2, argon.
