For all those who have mocked me for having a non-operational 'project car', look elsewhere.
I have been working off and on for awhile and last week I got everything buttoned up enough to fire it up.
Fired up the beast tonight and had a nice rumble, shake the cob webs off a little, topped off coolant, add tranny fluid, work the tranny through the shifter, look for any leaks, etc. Revved it up and ho' che' mama WOW! That nasty cammed 406 with three inch dia X-pipe setup with dynomax mufflers that dump just before the rear axle is like an intense growling scream with some deep bass behind it for added measure. I heard x-pipe have a different sound. I looked back and I swear I saw small woodland creatures fleeing like their lives depended on it - okay maybe it was one of my neighbors PIA small dogs that still needs to know where it's property is. Well at least my cats were freaked.
This is going to be a fun car. A 10", 3000 rpm stall converter with a peg leg shreds the tire way too easily. I was starting to pull it into the garage and the engine started to die, so I pumped the gas pedal once and smoked a tire in a heartbeat. This setup hits darn quick and hard. I did have the other foot on the brake just in case. Way cool. Now for a posi with either a 4.10 or 3.73 gear.
My junkyard serpentine belt setup worked great. No slipping/ squealing belts like before. Pumps out 14.2 volts, fan pulled great airflow threw the radiator and temp stayed at 160 to 170 the whole time. Not bad for like $80 into the whole setup.
I still need to fine tune it as the choke was not working right and misc stuff like a battery tray. radiator cap, etc, some wiring and blocking off the heater core.
So now I have put the Elky on dollies and tucked it to the side of the garage for it's LS1 / T56 project in the future. (And the Elky did run and drive, just a little scary due to worn out bushings, so no, you may not mock me for that 'project car' either)
Motor on! Just wish it was earlier in the season so I could get out more.

Well, at least we should still be able to mock Dave for a very very long time.
Congrats, now you'll be able to mock Dave with the rest of us.
Your timing is a little off... you're not supposed to take your first summer cruise in September. Posts: 1440 | From: Dexter, MN | Registered: Aug 2004

Awesome dude. Is it gonna make it to the picnic? I envy your position. I won't be hearing any growling from my garage unless its the wife telling me I've spent toooooo much time out there.

Yeah, I turn wrenches, but never on the dang 'Camino! This weekend spent replacing one of the C.O.P.s on my Furd 150, then a new fuel pump & harness on the RoadHog, and called it quits after digging into the gimbal bearing on the boat!

I need to address some issue first - lights / signals not working right, E-brake cable routing around exhaust, getting bumper bolts and mounting bumpers, etc. Need to swap some fresh premium in the tank also.
I have been surprisingly busy again, so little time spent on it now.
