Melody Saxe's 1964 El Camino -- The next few months, we had it painted its present color, a beautiful Pearl white. We added Headman headers, and a rather large K&N performance air cleaner, over a Carter four barrel carb. Oh, I also met a rather nice man in the Oregon City Fred Meyer parking lot. His name is Vic Vanderstar, a member of the Chevelle and El Camino Club of Oregon. We visited a few minutes and he gave me a little card with some info on it and we said our goodbyes. That was in the end of September 2000. Our daughter's wedding was two weeks away. No time to think about anything else. Around the middle to the end of May 2001 (we'd had the car for a year now) we went to a car show at the Oregon Convention Center. You know, one of those big ones. Our son had just gotten married and we were enjoying some down time. We were walking around, oohing and aahing, when I spotted an interesting booth. Chevelle and El Camino Club of Oregon. They had pictures of meeting and get togethers. And the cars were all so awesome and gorgeous and beautiful. This really nice fellow, Sonny Connell, started talking to us. I told him about meeting Vic and he said we should join the club. We took an application with us and went on our way. Within a week we sent the application off, and the rest, as they say, is history.
