Kelly Foster's 1964 El Camino -- When I was in High school in Enterprise Oregon, I had a 1964 El Camino. Worked on it all the time. As you all know there is plenty of space under the hood, especially if you have a small block. So I did all I could with headers and new short block. In 2004, I decided to get another El Camino before I retired. Enjoy it and have it paid for before I quit work. I talked to a few friends that are into cars. One Tim, is nuts into corvettes, the other Larry is very much into Vipers. Both told me to take my time, look around and see what you find. So I go to Ebay and see what they have. All I want is an El Camino, that is nice, has a V8, manual 4 speed and runs. I do the search and see there is 86 on ebay for sale. Most have automatic transmission. I want a V8, with a 4 barrel and a 4 speed stick. I have always loved the rush of powering up in RMP, higher and higher, kick in the 4 barrel and then shift to second. Well after looking different places and seeing a few on Ebay that were nice or just junk, I found 2 cars that had manual transmissions. One was a piece of junk and the other is the car I have now. Ron Roy of Calif. worked on this car, restored it and had help from his friends and buddies in Calf. He does well in life and his friends work on different cars and enjoy seeing who can do the other one better. It is a contest to see how well they can out do the other. Well Ron worked on this car. Once I started bidding it was fun, I had not used Ebay before, so I bought a few things, so I got into how it worked and made sure the payment process worked. Well there were like 5 or 6 bidders that had bid on this car. We went from 4 or 5,000, up to 8 or 9,000 and a few people dropped out. Then it went up to 11, 12, and 13,000. Well, I kept looking at the car, called Ron, talked to him, got more details about the car. Then I could not wait any long for the bidding process, I just hit the "Buy It" button. I was so excited, the photos and what Ron had told me of the car were really neat. Ron and I decided to ship the car up. I got the car Feb. of 2005. Once I got it here, the car looked great, but needed more work then I had expected. Best to drive a car before you buy it. Well, I had the transmission and differential worked on and my son and I put on a new intake manifold, and changes out a few more parts. There was a crazy bracket that was holding the alternator, so we got it back to normal position. After a couple of new tires, making sure all the grounds were tightened, we had a great car. Always get complements when we get out for a drive. The interior dash is a jaeger nickel plate. It really makes the car look very nice. The engine is a 327, with the Edelbrock kit. Four Barrel, cam, and intake manifold. The car runs and drives very well. Power steering is so nice compared to when I did not have it in my old 64. I also had a 1971 SS El Camino in the 80's, but a friend used the car and totaled it. Another lesson, do not loan out your one and only car, specially a nice one. Maybe someone remembers purchasing a wrecked 1971 blue and black 1971 back in 1987 or 88. -- Kelly Foster
