Don and Gloria Johnson's 1966 El Camino -- I customized the dash a few years ago before custom dash packages were available for mine. Seems like I'm always just ahead of the easy way to do things. The big change was the installation of the TPI fuel injection. Again this was just something I liked the looks of and had wanted to do. Now fuel injection is becoming more and more popular. Yesterday's member Bill Magnusson had already performed a few of these conversions so I had him do the job. It is not truly a LS1 but a TPI package bolted on top of an early model 350 block which amounts to the same thing. An after market wiring package gives it a cleaner look than a complete engine swap. A new computer chip is needed to match the particular installation. I’ve always gone more for "what you can see" for my money so the engine is just a mild rebuild with performance cam, roller rockers, and balanced. It still runs through the Muncie 4-speed that was in the Camino when I got it, however that’s also been gone through.
