Fred Trient's 1964 El Camino aka DD, The Shady Lady -- My newest Elky is a bit of a mystery with clues scattered here and there to keep me guessing. The registration says she's a 64 and the cowl tag says 64 and that tag is glued on, not riveted. Hmmm, some legal hanky panky? Also the door jamb tag numbers agree with the style part of the cowl tag but don't jibe with the VN part. The sheet metal and interior say 65. She looks like a 65 so that's what I call her to avoid long drawn out explanations, except maybe if the listener might spring for beers. Early on, while buffing out the paint, I discovered numbers and words scratched into the original paint on the cab roof that would indicate it once was in an auction or at a wrecking yard. The remains of a former mice hotel in the heater duct work also suggested that she had sat undriven for a long, long time. I have no idea when or where the rehabilitation took place but I'm sure glad it did. Matching numbers, correct decals and obscure factory inspection marks are not something that matters a whole lot to me. This Elky is a runner, she's bright red and best of all SHES MINE !
