Jan Vandervolt's 1981 El Camino "Conquesta" -- There wasn't too much we had to do to the car. Dave spent the entire first winter we owned it taking off the plastic grass that had been GLUED into the entire bed. Talk about a tough and long job. But, finally all of it was removed and we could see the bed. There was a tonneau cover on the car, but it was in rough shape, plus, I didn't care for the color. So, we looked around until we found the creamy white we wanted and had that installed. We took the car over to Austen's in Canby just to have the major rock chips taken care of on the front hood piece. There were a few chips here and there, but basically the entire paint job is original. There was also the original spare tire under the back, so I was able to measure the white wall so I would know that I needed to find 1 1/4", which turned out to be fairly difficult to find. The only other thing I needed to find were the original wire hubcaps, which had been removed three days after the car was originally purchased in 1981. Finally found what I was looking for, and with Dave's help, we removed all of the little wire pieces to get them thoroughly cleaned and as shiny as possible. Other than keeping the car waxed and polished, there isn't much else changed on the car.
