[Chevelle-list] Torque converter

Check out Hughes Performance (http://www.hughesperformance.com) they have many different converters for specific applications. Perhaps you are looking for something like their XTM/XFM series...

You will want a little higher stall than stock if you have a larger camshaft, the 700R4 has a "lock-up" converter so getting a "good" converter that will hold 1:1 when locked will give you the best mileage.

Kind regards,

Rick, Tom is right. The part must match the application! I would rather tow a caravan with a pick-up than a sport car. The pick-up may not be as fast but so reliable!

The torque converter really should be matched to thespecs of the camshaft, rear axle gears and the powerband the engine operates in for the best performance. Just an FYI..TCI converters are junk, I blew one apart in my 70 and I'm not the only one who has had that happen. Also, each stock application is different.

I need to replace the 700r4 in my el camino. I need help in picking the correct torque converter. The car is a cruiser - no racing but some brisk acceleration at times. If I had to choose between an extra MPG vs an extra second in the 1/4 mi, I'll take the MPG.

Am I correct in assuming that a low stall speed will be best choice. ? Will a converter from the parts store serve me as well as one from B&M or TCI? Will there be a difference in a stock replacement for a 90 camaro vs stock replacement for a 90 pickup? thx
