Polyurethane Bushings

J.T. -   I am concerned about polyurethane bushings being to harsh riding, both in the road feel through the steering wheel as well as in the seats. I'd appreciate the comments from someone who has installed poly bushings and has an opinion about them.

My Chevelle is a 1970 SS with a 502 crate motor in stock configuration. The tires are new BF Goodrich radial TAs, 215x65x15 up front; 255x60x15 out back. The car has brand new KYB shocks and I am about to rebuild the front suspension, followed next spring by rebuilding the rear suspension. The car is street driven only with most of my "hitting it" occurring in second gear( TH400) while already rolling.

If the poly bushings are too severe perhaps using them on just the sway bars, front and back, would be a good compromise.

Please let me know what you think and thank you for this website.

B.T. -   I am very happy with the PST polygraphite bushings that I installed last year in my 69 big block car. The complete kit included everything I needed and the ride is not harsh but the handling is improved. I have frinds who used regular poly or del-a-lum bushings and the squeaks drive them nuts. The polygraphite bushings have not given me a squeak yet.

S.C. -   John, I would recommend the polygraphite bushings by PST. They are graphite impregnated urethane and will not squeak. I installed a complete body and supension kit. If you're looking for a soft ride use rubber,if you're looking for a high performance ride with no lean or flexing I highly recommend the polygraphite bushings. There is very little vibration, a little more than rubber.

B.H. -   The polyurethane/polygraphite bushings will have the characteristics of both a solid and rubber bushing, and will not produce a harsh ride. These bushings will not flex, and will last a long time on a car, once installed. I had a set on my Nova subframe mounts, and had no problems since.

If you use them on suspension components, use some synthetic grease, since this will deter squeaks.
